When to Quit…

(Vs When to Lean In!)

It's all very well being OK with failing, but how do you decide when it is OK to quit, and when you just need to push a little?

Sometimes, you try something and it’s not what you thought it would be i.e. you like the idea more than the reality!

The most dangerous form of quitting is not bothering and staying in your comfort zone. This is playing not to lose,  we're not achieving goals, but also, we're not “not achieving” them!

We've drilled down some questions to help you decide if you should quit or lean in...

  1. Did you ask a professional to find out what you need to do to take the next step and push out of your comfort zone?

  2. Is there a better way? - know yourself, how can you make it… more interesting, more fun, less friction, more elegant?

  3. Am I being consistent? Consistency has way more value, but don’t get stuck in the rut of not really bothering!

  4. Check your expectations - are you expecting too much too soon, or is it a low bar and so you’re not trying that hard?

  5. Has there been changes but I’ve just not seen them? Am I looking for the right thing?

  6. Have I got the correct goal for me, for what I'm doing?

  7. Is this the plan that works for me?

  8. Am I stirring too many pots - half heartedly doing too many things and trying to spread the risk. Be all in!

  9. Am I tired? when you want to quit, is it just fatigue

  10. Am I feeling the pressure? There is still stigma on women, not to mention our success, or better still not be successful! This leads to comments like "oh I thought you would have given up by now" sometimes from loved ones. Don't let others pressure you into looking at the wrong results, or taking the wrong action.

  11. Do I want this enough to persist without exception? Was it a goal given to me by someone else?

  12. Have I taken my on advice!

  13. Am I too comfortable? Change happens outside of your comfort zone so getting uncomfortable can be like dynamite on our goals and habits.

We hope those questions help you to get clarity. We almost always need to lean in to achieve our goals as most things are harder, or take longer than we first thought. There's nothing wrong with quitting under the right circumstances though!
